What is a Web 2.0 Tour Guide?

If you haven't seen my previous post on Web 2.0 I would recommend you start there so you understand what I mean by that term.

Dictionary.com defines to guide as:

1. To assist (a person) to travel through, or reach a destination in, an unfamiliar area, as by accompanying or giving directions to the person.

2. To accompany (a sightseer) to show points of interest and to explain their meaning or significance.

For many people the internet is an unfamiliar area and they need someone to accompany them and/or give them direction.

I wish I had a Web 2.0 Tour Guide when I started out. It would have saved me hundreds of hours of running around in circles.

The other think a guide should do is accompany. It would have really helped me if someone who had already registered to many of the Web 2.0 sites out there would have provided the best of their links and then set-up instructions at each linked site explaining how to best leverage the strengths of that site by showing of their own content as an example for me to see the benefits of using that site as a tool in my Web 2.0 journey. I could have then decided for myself the value of registering and/or using that particular tool or site.

My next blog will actually begin the journey.

Tim
